CityBoy has stepped out of the shadows of Chicago’s thriving music scene and all too dangerous streets to establish him self as a international artist and entrepreneur while staying true to the streets that raised him.

Born and raised in and around the trap houses of Chicago’s infamous Humbolt Park/Logan Square CityBoy’s was exposed to the business of selling drugs from birth. Both of his parents were well known dealers and CityBoy spent most of his early life surrounded by drug dealings, murders, and guns, which led to him living a life that most people could only begin to imagine. Although he was surrounded by the drama of the streets CityBoy found an outlet for his frustrations in music, which he developed a passion for while hustling in the streets. A born businessman it was only right that CityBoy would enter into the business side of music before becoming an artist forming his own record label C.O.R. Records or Crack Or Rap Records. When asked why he named his record label this, CityBoy simply replied, “that’s the choice I have to make, either I’m going to succeed at creating this music or its back to hustling crack.” CityBoy took inspiration for from artists like Tupac, NWA, Eazy, E, Baby of Cash Money, and T.i. all of which he claims turned the nothing they were given into something and found a way to turn their hustles into legitimate money.. The iStandard Producer Showcase is the longest running, most successful producer event in the world. Starting in NYC 5 years ago, iStandard is now in 8 major markets such as Miami, Philly, San Francisco, LA, ATL, Chicago and several NEW cities on the schedule for 2010. During the show, producers play 5 beats each and get critiqued by a panel of industry execs, platinum producers and tastemakers in efforts to educate them on their presentational skills and overall approach to making music. The producers are then given verbal feedback from our judges and at the end of the show a winner is announced and a prize package consisting of production software, interviews and additional exposure oriented perks is awarded. iStandard has had amazing judges over the years from DJ Premier, Swizz Beats, and Hi Tek to Sha Money XL (Co founder of G Unit) Lenny S (VP of A&R Def Jam), Riggs Morales (SR VP of A&R Shady Records) and Senator Skid (AR Manager Bad Boy Records) to name a few. DJ RTC Commentary On "Crack The Code":

"I really dug into Skyzoo's material while making the first Brainiac Mixtape with Naledge. He put two Skyzoo tracks on the mix and I was more than impressed. I went back into Sky's catalog and eagerly awaited the release of his debut LP, The Salvation. Shortly before the album's release, I had the chance to interview Skyzoo and he told me that he heard about Closed Sessions, and our Dimes and Dozens party in which we bring out of town artists into Chicago and have them perform at our monthly event. He expressed interest in doing the same and I was definitely with it. We organized a show for Skyzoo at The Darkroom, and setup a Closed Session for him the following day. Virgil and Ruben took Sky all around the city before his show, and when he hit SoundScape we could all tell that Chicago had made an impression on him. Rhymefest ended up just being at the studio during Skyzoo's session, the two hit it off very quickly with help from this K-Salaam and Beatnik track and the concept for "Crack The Code" was born. Skyzoo's verse centers on the intricacies of Chicago, while Rhymefest raps about the nature of New York City. It's an homage to two great homes for Hip Hop, and a pairing of two great emcees."

"Cases" includes exceptional tracks from A-Class (who has been quickly making a name for himself in the Grind Time battle circuit), young Baltimore wordsmith Trace Blam and NC heavyhitter L.E.G.A.C.Y. (Justus League, Hall of Justus) who, fresh off the release of the critically acclaimed "Suicide Music" LP, plays the role of the most corrupt checking in on "Officer Kickass". The remainder of the album includes tracks from a slew of Maryland emcees, namely Mic Brown, Seph Jones, 4th Down, A6, IronSoul and Xtra, who all provide outstanding contributions.

In the same vein as conceptual works like Prince Paul's "A Prince Among Thieves" and Sticky Fingaz's "Black Trash", this 1960's crime drama-inspired album is a breath of fresh air in these times of exhaustive mix-tape releases and the invariable LP format. As each detailed story advances the discordant plot line to play out more like blockbuster movie than an album, it is clear that "Cases" is not just another compilation.

I've always been a fan of a quality pop music. Recently, I've had the opportunity to experiment with a more "pop" sound for music I've been pitching for movie placements. At first I was just doing the pop stuff "on the side," but then I started wondering what it be like to really dive into a new creative direction. Truthfully, I don't know if assuming a more mainstream sound would cause me to sell more records or not...at the end of the day, I could wind up with fewer fans than I had before! Like anything worthwhile, change holds as much risk as it does promise.


For the better part of a decade, I've been in business of creating music from my spot just outside of the music business. On "Forgiveness" I'm expressing some of the frustration I've experienced along the way while experimenting with a new sound."

CHICAGO – Grammy Award winner, Rhymefest, will release his highly anticipated album El Che on May 18, 2010 via dNBe Entertainment. Distributed by EMI, in conjunction with Rosehip Records.

The full length LP features production from beatsmiths Scram Jones, S1, BKS, and Terry Hunter. The 16-track opus also boasts guest appearances from Little Brother, Saigon, Glen Lewis, and fellow Chicago emcee Twone Gabz.
