Over the past months I've been able to meet and interact with Boardroom Music Group. They have a great roster of artists. Their first artist out the gate will be Jetnoise Cardi. He will be releasing his mixtape on Jan 28th along with Mic Fiend Music's Thadd Williams. So I had a chance to speak to him for him to share some things about him that some people don't know. So definitely check it out.
UF: For the people who don't know who you are, tell the people your name and where you from?
WHAT UP! My name is JetNoiseCardi and I'm from Suffolk, Va.
UF: How did you get started in music?
I always loved music but my cousin, Knotty, was heavy on the hip hop scene in the late 90's early 2000's and after watching him I started freestylin and writting rhymes at about age 13. By about age 14 I started making beats and was primarily a producer. In and out of studios and taking trips to and from New York doing beats for people was getting old and I really wanted to put more work into myself. I was introduced to Dre(Boardroom Ceo) at age 16 by my cousin Knotty and I started working on an album for myself. That was pretty much the starting point for me.
UF: For everybody that hasn't heard your music before, explain your sound and style to them.
Haha my sound is Charismatic, Energetic, and attention grabbing. My style is simply lyrical. I use a lot of word play and punch lines to keep people listening and waiting for my next words.
UF: For everybody that isn't aware of the VA hip hop scene let people know how it is out Virginia?
Its rough here in VA because people fail to realize how much talent is here. They have been enjoying VA music for years without knowing. Timbaland, Pharrell, Missy, and Teddy Riley have all made HUGE impacts on music from the early 90's on. So when peoples eyes and ears are closed to a certain area, its important to unite and support each other and make people pay attention! Right now there are several VERY talented artist here and by all of us supporting each other and working together I think we can change the image people have of VA.
UF: I see that you are with Boardroom Music Group, how did you get started with them?
Ah man...I've been with Boardroom since before there ever was a Boardroom. Like I said earlier I've been working with Dre since I was 16. When I was about 20 Dre linked with Show(Boardroom CEO) and they started the company together. So I've been there from the begining.
UF: How important do you think it is to have a team behind you?
Having a team is probably the most important part of your career besides having quality music. There needs to be someone behind you working for you even when you don't know it. Representation also gains you respect and puts people in a position to take you seriously. If you don't have a team build one. If you can't build one find one because otherwise you're going to have a very hard time succeeding.
UF: Since it seems like everybody wants to be a rapper thesedays what would be some advice that you would you give to someone that is looking to start their own buzz?
First and foremost the music itself. Make sure you as an emcee sound good! Skill set is ULTRA important. Lyrics, delivery, charisma, and the sound quality can all make or break you. From there build relationships and have people know your face and your name. Use your team to help build your name as a brand and out work other people. Working hard combined with all the other things I mentioned will create buzz and further your career.
UF: Who are some of your musical influences in the industry?
I like a lot of artist but my only real industry influence is Kanye. Kanye is involved in EVERY part of his music. The production, recording, engineering, and marketing. To me having your hands in each area allows you to shape and create a better package for yourself. I structure myself in the same way and keep my hands involved in each area.
UF: Since I know there are a lot of artists that are makingmoves in Virginia, what are you planning to do to separate yourself from all of the other talented artists?
Honestly I think the music will take care of the majority of that. That's not to knock other artist in VA or say I'm better than this person or that person but my overall sound and appeal on records will grab peoples attention and they will take notice. Outside of that really its all marketing strategies and hardwork. The people will notice and seperate me from other artist themselves.
UF: How important do you think establishing your own personal brand in music is?
That's another factor in seperating yourself from other artist. I missed that last question lol. Establishing a brand allows people to identify you and who you are. If you look at who has emerged recently in the industry, people like Drake and Wale to name a few, they all had established themselves as a brand and created a following before they emerged on the national scene. What that in turn does is create longivity as long as the music is at the same high quality.
UF: I know that you are working on Snappage Vol. 1, first where did that name come from?
I always use the word Snap or some form of it. Show and I were in the studio for like 2 days straight with maybe 5 hours of sleep, and we were like what are we gonna call the mixtape. Well randomly in the middle of writting Show woke upd said we should call it Snappage. I asked why and he said just listen to all the songs so far...you are F'N SNAPPIN! And I kno that this is just the start of me snappin so I added the Vol 1. I had actually done a song called "Snappage" before we started in on the mixtape, whch ironically didn't make the final cut lol. You can see the video for it on Youtube at rtsp://v3.cache2.c.youtube.com/CkYLENy73wIaPQl47e4K2VrFUhMYDSANFEIJbXYtZ29vZ2xlSARSBXdhdGNoWg5DbGlja1RodW1ibmFpbGCbzee2pcSKqUsM/0/0/0/video.3gp;connectionuid=WAP2%20trans
UF: With your mixtape dropping what can we expect from your project?
You can expect simply what the title says "Snappage". LOL
UF: What are some of the other projects that we should be expecting from Boardroom in the upcoming future?
Oh man...well I myself am already going to work on Snappage Vol 2. We also have Caz who is in the studio working on his new mixtape called Hate Me Vol 1. Charlie Streetz has his mixtape called Coupe Season which is due out in the spring. We will also be working with Mz. Parker in the future. Boardroom has a lot of quality music on the way. Yall will hear VERY soon!
UF: With everything in music always changing where do you see yourself in the next five years?
I see myself as an establised artist making an impact on the industry with good music representing Virginia.
UF: As far as the music scene in Virginia is, who are some artists that people should be on the lookout for?
Obviously myself and artist at Boardroom. Outside of that definatly keep your eyes on Thadd Williams, B Michelle, Dout Gotcha, Mwatts, and A Driver. Those are definatley names you will hear a lot about from VA.
UF: Any last shouts outs.....
